Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (NIV)

13Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
14For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

Now some people believe this to be a harsh way to end the book of Ecclesiastes. Talk of Fear, and duty can be a bit frightening for a person who is very much aware of their need for the Grace of God. I, however, see this in a somewhat different light:

Our life has purpose and meaning. That is truely what is being said here and these are good things to have, especially to those who are just waking up to the seemingly endless futility of our existance that is expressed elsewhere in this book. How many people commit suicide because they only see this futility and wish to escape the pain of their mundane and seemingly meaningless life? Certainly, they could benefit from even just this small passage. We are here for a purpose. If all we ever complete is our search for what that purpose is, it is better than the Nihilism that many fall into.

There is a link on the Title of the primary post. It takes you to a page that has an emphasised version of this passage.
